A Quick Chat with Lara Villani

What is the story behind this track?
“Losing My Mind” is about that intense, all-consuming feeling when you’re completely infatuated with someone, to the point where it almost drives you insane. It’s like your thoughts are constantly spiralling around them, and no matter what you do, you can’t shake the obsession. I wanted the track to capture that chaotic mix of passion, vulnerability, and emotional overload, where you know it might not be good for you, but you're in too deep to pull away. It’s dramatic, a little unhinged, but also very real. We've all had those moments where our feelings take over.

What inspires your music?
My music is inspired by real emotions and experiences, whether it's falling in love, facing heartbreak, chasing dreams, or finding strength through tough moments. I love telling stories that people can connect with, especially around relationships, self-growth, and those moments where you feel everything at once. I’m also heavily influenced by strong female artists who aren't afraid to be vulnerable or bold, and I draw a lot from everyday life, conversations with friends, and late-night thoughts. At the end of the day, I want my songs to feel like a conversation—honest, emotional, and a little bit empowering too.

Where do you draw influences from?
I draw influences from a mix of R&B, pop, and soulful music. Artists like Tyla, SZA, and Dua Lipa have definitely shaped my sound. I also pull a lot from my own life—the highs, the lows, the messy in-betweens—and from the people around me. Sometimes even a single moment, like a conversation, a memory, or a feeling, can spark a whole song.

What are your favourite parts about creating music and the creative process?
What I love most about creating music is the way it makes people feel and connect—not just to the song, but to themselves and to each other. There's something so powerful about turning a personal moment into something universal. When someone tells me a track helped them through something, or that it felt like I put their emotions into words, that’s everything to me.

How has your artistry developed since releasing your first track?
Since releasing my first track, my artistry has grown in every way—creatively, emotionally, and even technically. I’ve become a lot more confident in my voice, not just vocally, but in what I want to say and how I want to say it. I’ve learned to trust my instincts more, to dig deeper into storytelling, and to be unafraid of vulnerability. I’ve also started to think more holistically—from how the music sounds to how it looks and feels visually. Every song now feels more intentional, more layered. It’s been such a journey of discovering who I am as an artist, and I feel like I’m only just beginning to tap into the kind of music I really want to make.
