A Quick Chat with Trip to Paris
Trip To Paris comes out swinging with Imposter Syndrome, an explosive new single that takes aim at the voice in your head that never shuts up. The Naarm-based trio blends pop-rock and punk into a raw, high-energy track that dives headfirst into the chaos of self-doubt and perfectionism. With razor-sharp guitar riffs, pounding drums, and Paris’ cutting vocals, Imposter Syndrome captures that inner monologue we all try to silence. Honest, unflinching, and catchy as hell, it’s a rallying cry for anyone who's ever felt like a fraud. We caught up with the band to talk about the track, their tour, and what’s next.
Can you tell us what this track means to you and what you want people to take away from it?
Imposter Syndrome takes a really personal step into the internal thoughts of self-doubt and criticism. We wanted the song to feel like a release, an outlet to call out those thoughts for what they really are. Because at the end of the day, everyone’s just trying to figure it out, and that feeling of imposter syndrome is something we all face.
Who are some of your influences, and why?
We’d probably all give different answers to this, but if we think back to the artists who first influenced our songwriting as a band, names like DZ Deathrays, Paramore, and Alanis Morissette come to mind. In those early days, they were the artists we were covering and the songs we first played together and shaped the foundation of how we write and play today.
What's the creative process for you, from writing through to recording?
We have a very collaborative approach to our songwriting and no two songs have ever come together the same way. Sometimes it starts with a drum rhythm from Cole, a guitar riff from Jordan, or a lyrical melody from Paris. But no matter where it begins, one thing’s always true — we always finish every song together.
What do you think makes a great song?
A catchy hook that sticks with you but is also thought-provoking.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
The first artist that comes to mind is Australian duo Clews. Their track Museum was the first song we added to our collaborative playlist when we were just starting to shape our sound and figure out our direction. Seeing them live at the Workers Club was the first concert we all went to together as a band, so getting the chance to collaborate with them would feel incredibly full-circle and deeply nostalgic.
When not working on music, what other creative outlet/s do you have?
Amongst the 3 of us we have creative interests in videography, photography and drawing.
Who are some local bands we should check out?
You should definitely go check out Honeymoon Phase, Getjaxxed, Jaded State and Backo.
Winter or summer and why?
Summer, because who doesn’t love a good summer festival?
What do you have planned for 2025?
We’re heading out on our first-ever tour across regional Victoria, with stops in Geelong, Bendigo, Colac, and more. Plus, we’ve got plenty of new music in the works that we can’t wait to share with you all soon!
